New-construction lighting and recessed-shade design concept.

Illustrative project design study. Architectural concept images show a proposed approach, not a completed installation.

The Opportunity

New construction provides the opportunity to plan lighting and daylight control before walls, ceilings and millwork are finished. The goal is to make the technology part of the architecture—not an addition that requires compromises later.

The Proposed Approach

This design study explores a Lutron HomeWorks system with coordinated lighting scenes and wired motorized shades. Ketra lighting would be evaluated for selected spaces where tunable light and precise architectural illumination support the design.

Living-area shades would retract into planned ceiling pockets. Bedroom shading would be specified separately for privacy and darkness, including perimeter-light management where needed. Exposed Palladiom hardware could be considered in rooms where the brackets complement the interior design.

Construction Coordination

Before rough-in, the proposed scope includes lighting-load schedules, fixture compatibility, processor and panel locations, keypad layouts, shade-power routes and network requirements.

Shade pockets would be coordinated with the architect, builder and millwork team using the selected product’s actual dimensions, clearances and service-access requirements. Final field measurements would precede shade ordering.

Programming and Commissioning

Proposed scenes include Morning, Entertain, Dinner and Goodnight. Commissioning would check dimming performance, shade alignment, grouped movement, keypad operation and any compatible smart-home integration.

Design Objective

Clean architectural details, straightforward controls and coordinated electric light and daylight—with infrastructure planned for ongoing service.
