A lightning event or electrical surge can affect far more than a television. Homes and businesses depend on connected audio video, Wi-Fi, network switches, servers, phones, cameras, access control and automation. Sentry Audio Video, LLC provides technology and IT services to help plan protection for those systems and assess them after a suspected power event.
Protection for connected homes and commercial properties
No device can make a property lightning-proof. A practical plan considers the paths that carry power and data into critical technology, along with the equipment that needs an orderly shutdown or short-term power continuity. Our team can review AV and IT racks, network equipment, point-of-use surge protection, power conditioning and battery backup as part of an agreed project. We coordinate with a qualified electrical contractor for service-entrance protection, grounding and other electrical work within that contractor’s scope.
After a suspected lightning strike or surge
If there is smoke, damaged wiring or another electrical hazard, stop using the affected equipment and contact an electrician or emergency service as appropriate. Once the property is safe, Sentry’s AV and IT team can assess the connected systems and develop a restoration plan for the home, office or commercial site.
- Inventory and symptoms: Identify affected AV, network, IT, security and control equipment and record what is no longer working.
- Diagnostics: Test accessible devices, cabling, connectivity and system functions within the service scope.
- Priorities: Discuss which functions must return first, such as internet access, business communications, surveillance or essential controls.
- Repair or replacement: Explain practical options and provide itemized estimates for the work Sentry proposes.
- Restoration: Complete approved replacement, configuration and testing, including connections between AV, networking, IT and security systems.
- Future resilience: Review protection gaps and discuss appropriate improvements with the owner and relevant trades.
Documentation for an insurance claim
After a loss, we can document our observations with an equipment inventory, photos where available, diagnostic notes and itemized repair or replacement estimates. The property owner can provide these records to their insurer and adjuster. Sentry is a technology and IT contractor, not an insurance adjuster. We do not interpret policies, determine coverage, negotiate or submit claims on a client’s behalf, or guarantee reimbursement. The insurer determines coverage; the cause of damage may require evaluation by an independent specialist.
