Give an older HomeWorks installation a documented path forward. Sentry Audio Video assesses HomeWorks Interactive, Illumination and QS systems for repair, takeover or migration to HomeWorks QSX. The proposal follows the equipment actually installed, available programming and the lighting and shade functions you want to retain or improve.
Start With a Legacy HomeWorks Assessment
An aging system may still operate, yet have failing controls, outdated programming, limited expansion options or integration changes to address. Sentry reviews the whole system before defining which equipment can remain, which must be replaced and how the transition should be staged.

Which HomeWorks Generation Is Installed?
HomeWorks Interactive and Illumination
These installations need a legacy hardware and programming review before a QSX scope is prepared. Lutron documents upgrade solutions for Illumination and supported legacy panel equipment. A translator can provide a route for certain retained panels, while other devices may require replacement. The installed panel generation, modules, keypads, shades and wiring determine the route; a new processor does not make all legacy hardware compatible.
HomeWorks QS to HomeWorks QSX
Review the existing QS processor, links, devices, project database and third-party control connections. The assessment identifies retained compatible equipment, required replacements and programming or integration changes. We keep a separate HomeWorks QS-to-QSX planning guide for that specific migration.
Unknown system or missing records
You do not need to identify every component before calling. Send photographs of accessible processor labels, keypad styles and any existing documentation. We can establish the generation and available access during the assessment. Missing files, failed equipment and undocumented changes may affect the survey and programming scope.
Preserve Useful Infrastructure With a Keep-or-Replace Plan
Useful wiring, enclosures or supported panel equipment may be candidates for retention after inspection. Older keypad families, dimmers, shade motors or interfaces may need a different path. A model-by-model schedule explains what is being kept, replaced or reconfigured and why. Reuse depends on compatibility, condition and the goals for the finished home.
Older QED shades need their own motor, power, wiring and mounting review. Do not assume that retaining a shade fabric or roller means retaining its control electronics. Likewise, changes to LED fixtures can create a separate load and dimming-compatibility task even when the controls still respond.
What the Upgrade Scope Should Cover
- System survey: processors, panels, modules, links, keypads, controlled loads, shades and connected systems.
- Programming records: available database, keypad actions, schedules, scene levels and the routines you want preserved.
- Electrical coordination: fixture and driver information, load changes, panel work and responsibilities of the electrical trade.
- Modernization choices: keypad updates, room expansions, shade changes and lighting features appropriate for the proposed design.
- Integration review: supported Control4, Savant, Crestron or other control connections and any required reprogramming.
- Transition plan: access, work sequence, temporary lighting arrangements where required, testing and homeowner training.
Repair, Upgrade or Coordinate With a Renovation?
A single symptom should be diagnosed before a whole-system replacement is proposed. A focused repair may be appropriate where the system meets your needs and suitable parts or programming access are available. A broader migration can make sense when repeated faults, unsupported devices, desired features or renovation work justify a coordinated project.
For an occupied home, agree which rooms and lighting functions must stay available during the work. For new interiors or a larger remodel, coordinate keypad placement, fixture selections, shade power, pockets and panel access before finishes are finalized. A phased proposal should explain the dependencies between stages rather than promise that every old and new device will operate together.
HomeWorks Upgrade Service in All Four Sentry Areas
Boca Raton & Palm Beach County
For occupied estates, country-club homes and condominiums, plan the lighting transition around daily routines, access and any renovation work. Coordinate with property managers when the owner is away.
Fort Lauderdale & Broward
Waterfront properties and condominium projects need clear building access, work windows and a room-by-room plan. We review the installed controls, equipment locations and supporting network.
Orlando & Central Florida
For homes in Orlando, Windermere, Winter Park and surrounding communities, identify the existing system and desired expansion first. Review keypad locations, lighting changes and contractor coordination before equipment is selected.
New York & Long Island
Long Island, New York City and Hamptons projects are coordinated around property access, association or building requirements and seasonal occupancy. Confirm the address, scope and work schedule with our New York office.
Assessment charges, travel, project availability and scheduling are confirmed for the property before a visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does upgrading HomeWorks mean replacing every component?
The answer depends on the generation and actual equipment. Supported panels or infrastructure may be retained in an appropriate design; incompatible or unsuitable devices require replacement. The proposal should list those decisions clearly.
Can a system installed by another dealer be taken over?
We assess systems installed by other companies. Equipment condition, access, available records and the requested work determine the takeover plan.
Can an upgrade include new shades, fixtures or keypads?
Yes, these can be evaluated as part of the proposed scope. Compatibility, power, wiring, mounting and any required electrical work are confirmed before ordering.
How much will the upgrade cost?
Cost depends on system size, equipment that can be retained, replacements, programming, integration and site conditions. Assessment charges and the next step are confirmed before a visit, followed by a written scope for the proposed work.
